Have a 2p-20a breaker(2#12’s) feeding a 100a disconnect fora unit heater. The unit heater is about 2 Kw. How/why could there be a 100adisconnect? Thanks.
It's overkill, but not an issue. The disconnect has to be rated to handle the current that will be sent through it. So it will see under 10 amps and has the ability to handle ten times that. Someone spent too much money on that disconnect. But there is no safety hazard and no code violation.
More likely they had one laying around, vs driving to the supply house to buy a 30A switch and driving back, which ultimately would have cost them more.
