[via NYT] The European Commission announced that by doing “a year’s work in two weeks,” Ukraine’s and Moldova grid has been resynced to Europe's grid from the Russian/Belarusian one. It had been long planned but that's rather amazing.

I'm guessing but you cut loose off the east-facing ties, and wait, wait, wait until it's drifted intp sync with the European; then tie..??

At least they were both 50 Hz.....

My guess is most of the "year's worth of work" was paper shuffling.

Some bureaucrats patting themselves on the back. The technical side of it was likely finished a long time ago.

Apparently Russia started their invasion right after Ukraine and Moldova disconnected from the Russian/Belorussian grid to do testing in an island mode, according to the Wired story at the link below. I doubt that was just a coincidence.
This is Wired's explanation of the technical issues in island mode:
"Changing where the power comes from and where it goes means some lines suddenly get clogged with electrons while others dry up. It can be difficult to maintain balance for any length of time."
