We install telecommunication equipment on utility poles that require power to operate. We place a power disconnect and a meter that requires electrical inspections.
The box we place to protect our UL approved equipment is not UL certified. The inspector says the box needs UL approval and no other inspector has ever required that. We do not believe under Article 90.2(B)(4) he has jurisdiction over that box and can't require UL Certification.
Does he have jurisdiction over that part of the installation on a utility pole?
Would this box require UL certification?

Are you a utility? If not 90.2(B)(4) does not apply, as far as the NEC.

Note exclusive.

I have installed hundreds of 60 volt DC power supply's for cable all over this area, and all I have even had to say to an inspector was this is under a utility installation for a utility and is not covered by the NEC. the only inspection I got was from the POCO who did the tap to their pole conductors.

All they said was they would check on it and let me know, but most never came back or called, more so because they saw there was no permits issued, and was trying to catch me not getting one. but one did call me, and said I was in the clear, I always gave them my cell number so they could contact me.

Most likely if it is on a utility pole its not under the NEC or local jurisdiction.

We have installed thousands of our boxes in many states and this is the first time UL Certification came up as an issue for our housing. We are listed as a utility in Florida and believe our box in out of the inspectors authority.
Our disconnect and meter pan are UL listed.

You may want to check the State Code and see if 90.2 applies.
its omitted in Wisconsin. the UL thing? its anyones guess on that
hope that helps
