I have a project that has a demountable utility columns that have electrical boxes with receptacles (120V to 240V) mounted on the face, these outlets are then connected via flexible cords with locking plugs to a ceiling panel. The ceiling panel has electrical boxes that are hard wired to the building. The top of the utility column is about a foot below the ceiling and is anchor to the ceiling by an adjustable rod. The question is would these columns need to be UL listed assemblies or can we get by with using UL listed components for the electrical boxes, receptacles, cords and plugs.

Thanks
Charlie

Article 604

I believe what your describing would be covered by article 604 Manufactured Wiring Systems. There is no requirement for the entire system to be listed, however according to 604.6(C) and (D) receptacles and connectors and other component parts are required to be listed. Installation of this system is covered in those sections that address the wiring methods employed in the system.
