I've seen a competitor around here using prefabricated box support assemblies that consist of a 4Square box spot welded to a short piece of metal stud, they then screw that stud to a wall stud and thats it. Some boxes are an assembly with 3 boxes all spot welded into one assembly with metal studs between each of them. They also use a "pencil rod" material welded to boxes and to angle brackets for supports in ceilings and then use batwings Caddy Kx or K12's to attach cable and raceway to the pencil rod, some cases just zip ties.
Its a fast and cheap install. It looks horrible and takes all the workmanship out of the installation. The inspectors are signing off on it though. Is there anywhere in the code that requires box and raceway supports to be UL listed?
