i have a state of michigan inspector holding up a job because I can not give him a ul listing for a phillips 32 watt 4' tl 841 alto. I can notfind on an the lamp or packaging anywhere. do any of you guys have any info that can help me out.

I know this won't help but, I don't recall ever seeing a listing on a flourescent lamp.

I'd suggest to call or contact Philips

Where is the requirement that fluorescent lamps be listed?

I agree with Roger, I don't know that I have ever seen a UL listing on a fluorescent tube.

I just went down to my basement/material storage room. Looked at Philips F34T12s, Sylvania F72T12s, Sylvania F32T8s and a GE F15T8 black light. Not a UL listing on any of them! There is a UL listing on the screw-in CFLs, I assume it's because they have a built-in ballast. I guess this inspector can't pass any job that has fluorescents! What did you do to tick him off?

I don't believe ANY lamp is UL listed. At least I do not recall ever seeing one. I just looked at several boxes of lamps we have here and none of them are listed.

I would contact his supervisor and ask him/her to clarify exactly what the inspector is looking for. As a general rule, when an inspector wastes my time, I try to wast his bosses time. I find it makes them think twice next time. Please note I am not suggesting you are rude or even complain, just an honest inquiry that will bring to his attention what his inspectors are requesting. If it is a reasonable demand on the part of the inspector then you will learn something. If not, his boss should know what kind of inspections his guys are pulling.

Alternatively you could always go get a UL stamp made and stamp it yourself ;)

See this document from Phillips, specifically page 64:
