So UL has decided that at least one person at each location that makes UL508a ICPs has to take and pass a test.

Its an 80 question test. You get 4 hours. Open book. Presumably it is open internet as well since there appears to be no stated prohibition to doing so.

I still need to take the test. Anyone take it yet? Recommend studying before or just have the book handy and you're good to go?

I am going to take it tomorrow.

I would look through the standard so at least you have some clue where to look for answers that are not so obvious.

I am told you are allowed to take it again if you fail. however if you fail a second time you have to take a class to be allowed to take it a third time.

I am also told the test is free for now, but at some point in the not too distant future they will be charging for it.

Sorry for the bump on an old thread. I am late to the game, but I am getting ready to take the test. Any advice on what materials to go over? I am going to review the free courses on the UL website and read through the standard. I'm hoping that's enough to get me through since I only have a month to take it.

It is open book so getting the right answers is just a matter of finding in the standard where to look. That's not like you have to get 100% to pass I think 70% passes. I didn't have any trouble with it but I've been working with the standard for a long time. I don't quite have it memorized yet but I know where to look.

Thanks, I'll try to go through the standard a couple times then. Tabbing the important parts will probably help too.
