I need to get a 200 amp feed to an irrigation pump house (shed 15x15) and a straight shot is through (under) the pond, it has been drained and will be cleaned up and made deeper and the damn fixed, this pump house will sit on a peninsula that cuts up the center of the pond, so it will have water on both sides, I am trying to set up with the power co to get my service to the main bldg, from there this pump house will be approx 100' from the main bldg, if not and I have to go around the water, it will be 300'-400' anyone ever done anything like this? I want to run a 2" pvc conduit from the main bldg to the pump house shed in a straight line that will eventually be under the pond.

If it was my pond I would not want to run it under the pond. Somebody is likely to swim in it. What about animals will cows be useing it. It just would not be prudent.

However direct burial cable can run through a swamp. I don't know about under the pond.

its a tree farm and the pond is for irrigation for the trees, he has another setup like this but the pump house is on the bank of the pond, it will be stocked with fish (no cows or livestock). I am not sure if I could do it this way or not, I have been looking?? water is pumped from the pond to irrigate the trees and it has and underground drainage to catch water and return it back to the pond. This locate will be bigger and better. He has already excavated and made the pond bigger, we might have to re-engineer this one. I am sure it will get the occasional kid fishing that falls in!!

Sounds like he thought he would save money and do it himself, you say re engineer, if there was an engineer before the project started, he would have a good plan and nothing to re engineer, when you say you may have to re engineer it, are you a licensed, and insured PE engineer, sounds like the owner is thinking he will save money, and in the process, he will likely pay more, and end up with a mess.

The op wants to know if there is a rule against wiring under the pond. I believe article 682 would be the appropriate article. I have not seen anything in there that says you cannot run a conduit below the pond. Heck there may very well be a submersible pump in the pond. I have not found anything to not allow this install.

I agree with you Dennis.

The should no problem running under the pond, we usually use cable for these projects, as i said the electrical in the easy part, many states have strick rules on pond design, everything from how deep it can be and where on the property it is located, also required barriers, and envro monitoring, so before he starts to run the feed, he may want to make sure the site will pass all the other requirements, the rules vary state, to state, years back we got stiffed in a job like this, we ran the pump feeder, and after the state failed the project, the owner was not in a hurry to pay.

Someone from the state was suppose to meet with the owner Friday, I will see what they came up with, as far as "Re-Engineering" no, I am not a PE, but I do not believe there has been one involved in this project yet or will be, the owner is just kind of designing this as he goes. He has a similar set up at another tree farm he has (I stated above) but this pump house (shed) is on the bank of the pond, I looked at Art 682, but I still wasnt sure if I could run a 2" pvc conduit underground through the pond to the PH. He had a pond irrigation company come out and design the irrigation system, I still need to know what size pumps he will have. I was curious if anyone had come across anything like this before? thanks!

Can you not run aerial wire to it and completely avoid having to trench through the pond?

Seems like that would save a lot of headaches.

The biggest problem with running under the pond is when it is eventually dregged again, they may pull up the conduit and wire if its not buried deep in the bottom. Had a retention pond that had a cable that run the fountain in the center, dreggers ripped out everything due to not removing the floating fountain platform beforehand.
