Under Water Service issues.

I'm just asking dumb questions to avoid stupid mistakes. The details are as follows: The service starts at a pole on shore; then goes underground to a pond; then lays on the bottom of the pond; then proceeds underground to a house on an island. The span of this existing lateral is appox. 1000' and the pond depth is 35 to 40'.
The problem is the existing service has lost a phase and will need replacement/repair.
My questions are: 1. Is it appropiate to have feeders or laterals laying underwater with no additional physicle protection? 2. Are there better products other than USE or UF for this application? 3. Is there any combination cableing available for telephone, cable, and service? 4. Has anyone out there done a similar project and know what steps are required? {ie. DEP, Wetland issues.}

Re: Under Water Service issues.

Yes PVC conduit anchored down with hydraulic concrete. The wiring method will still have to be a wet location method but you wont have as much damage from something biting into the wire. What is the size of your load and the wire size?

And are you from the Daytona area in Florida?

Re: Under Water Service issues.

I beleive it is 100A [I haven't seen it in person]...and I,m up here in Maine. At least we share the same time zone! Thanks.

Re: Under Water Service issues.

The reason I asked the size of your load is at 100 amps load you would have to run 4/0 copper wire to over come the voltage drop. and 4/0 will only give you a 5.1% drop of 12.2 volts. 250 kcmil would be 4.3% at 10.3 volts and 350 kcmil would give you a 3.1% at 7.4 volts any large loads starting up would dim the lights.
Something to think about. If 3awg was ran the voltage drop would be 20.4% at 49 volts Ouch!

The question about Daytona, Florida was because I worked with a guy that had the same name as yours there. I'm acutely in Indiana now.

Re: Under Water Service issues.

Thanks again for your advice. I never lived in florida...and the name is very common. There is a huge contractor outfit in Conn. by that name.
Thanks.
