Underground conductor in conduit

The secondary conductors from a pad mounted transformer are installed in sch 40 pvc conduit. Are these required to be listed for wet locations or would thhn be acceptable?

If the raceways are in direct contact with the earth the interior of the raceways are considered a wet location and THHN would not be acceptable. Reference 300.5(B) - 2008 NEC

Remember most thhn wire is dual rated as thhn/thwn so it may be compliant. It would be written on the jacket.
