What kind of cable can you use that is direct burial, but terminates in a panel just inside a house? Does anybody even make such a cable? USE cable can not be inside a house, and SE cable can not be underground. Does this mean the only way to do this is with conduit and single conductors rated for wet locations?

Re: Underground Feeder for a House

Type USE is permitted for this application per the 2002 NEC. If you are working under the 1999, then you are not. Perhaps your AHJ can allow a variance based on the newer code allowance.

Is this for the service entrance or a feeder? If a feeder, then type UF could be used.

Re: Underground Feeder for a House

This would be for a service entrance. I thought that in ther erata of the 2002 code the USE was prohibited, not even 6 feet.

Re: Underground Feeder for a House

USE is not permitted inside a building, Frank, you are correct about the errata. Any dual rated cable is permitted however. :D
