IAW with 300.50 (B) MV cable installed underground needs to protected as it emerges from grade with the appropriate conduit.
For this particular installation the MV cable emerges from grade into a pad-mounted transformer cabinet (primary side). The cable is obviously not exposed because the transformers are locked. Am I still required to run conduit from the 30' burial depth up to the cabinet enclosure. Seems unreasonable since the cable is not in danger of being damaged. Not to mention, the transformer rests on a 6" thick concrete pad that covers most of the cable length as it begins it's transition from it's 30" burial depth to the surface.
