Re: underground service

That is a weird question. Why not just use PVC conduit or proper Type USE direct burial conductors?

I have seen istallations where there was a conduit run between the garage and basement (2") underground and a 100amp ser cable was run directly to each panel, saving the time and effort to fit pvc via LB's and etc.Code violation or was it just a sleeve?

352.22 Allows cables to be installed in RNC providing that the cable is not prohibited to be installed in conduit by the respective cable articles. Article 338 for SE cable has no such prohibition.

I don't see how this is legal. SE can not be used underground.

Since all conductors installed in conduit underground must be rated for a wet location,I would have to agree.

Although both SE and USE have the same moisture-resistant rating.USE is identified for use as underground wiring.(338.2)
