I am not an electrician. People just expect me to find information for them. So please excuse my wording. :) Someone is wanting to install and underground service at a pier. The information they have says to use UF or USE cable. They would like to use TC cable. Can they do this? Does it violate something and what would that be?

Re: Underground service

Take a look at 336-10 Uses permitted. TC cable can be direct buried or installed in conduit if identified for the use. I would suggest checking with a cable manufacture.

Re: Underground service

There must be more than TC in the marking.

URD cable can have many types of insulation and voltage.

Re: Underground service

Bennie, You are correct. Tray cable does have other markings. Here are a few: 600 Volt Tray Cable-Control and Power, TC TFN, THHN/THWN
TC THHN/THWN COMPOSITE
TC XHHW(VW-1)PVC
TC XHHW/HYPALON
TC FR-EP(VW-1)CPE JACKET
TC TFN/TFFN SHIELDED
TC THHN/THWN SHILEDED
TC LOW SMOKE/ZERO HALOGEN XHHW(VW-1).
