Understanding 110.26 (C) Egress Requirements

In an effort to better understand 110.26(C) I shows two scenarios below with switchgear located in an electrical room. When understanding egress requirements there as always been some confusion to me in defining egress as doors to leave the room vs simply being able to leave the workspace. My understanding however as that the egress requirements are for the ability for the worker to exist the "working space" and not necessarily leave the room through a door.

For scenario 1 below I see this as meeting the requirements of 110.26(C)(2) since it provides (2) ways for a worker to leave the working space behind the switchgear. Am I correct here in that the egress would only be to leave the working space to the left or right of working space or is the door in this example defined as the egress? Even if the door is defined as the egress, would 110.26(C)(2)(a) apply since there is an unobstructed path to this egress?

For scenario 2 below my understanding would be that this would be a violation of 110.26(C)(2) since regardless of how egress is defined (leaving work space vs door) there is only a single way to egress from work space and this a violation. Could you apply 110.26(C)(2)(a) here however if you have an unobstructed path as shown to leave the working space or room?

It seems you would like to use 110.25(C)(2)....I don't see how the second sketch would apply. It seems like you could be trap in there if something happened.

(2) Large Equipment. For equipment rated 1200 amperes or
more and over 1.8 m (6 ft) wide that contains overcurrent devices,
switching devices, or control devices, there shall be one
entrance to and egress from the required working space not
less than 610 mm (24 in.) wide and 2.0 m (61∕2 ft) high at each
end of the working space.
A single entrance to and egress from the required working
space shall be permitted where either of the conditions in
110.26(C)(2)(a) or (C)(2)(b) is met.

IMO, Scenario 2 would be a violation without doubling the clearance or providing a path at each end.
