Around here Wa State Seattle--The poco uses the polaris style taps--we are tryiing them in a few locations--Seem to work fine--even submerged

Polaris Bue - which was mentioned early in this thread, is rated for submersion. Ordinary Polaris taps are not.

Blue has silicone(?) boots that seal tightly around each individual conductor - you must select the correct one for your conductor overall diameter or it won't seal properly.

I have an answer! The sizing matrix confused many at my supply house and at 3M, but I finally got clarification on it from their tech support.

The matrix is indeed additive, you have to take the quantity of one size on the vertical column and the quantity of the other size on the horizontal column. If there is a dot where they intersect, you are good to go. In my example, I want to splice 3 #10 str with 3 more #10 str. There is a dot where they intersect so I can put six #10 str in that connector.

I told them it would be nice to include some instructions on how to read the table...:slaphead:

Did you have any discussion on the mm squared info we discussed?

I did ask him about that and I got a lot of dead air before they said, "it should compute to the same answers as the matrix". When I asked for clarification on how to read it, he said he had never seen that table before and agreed it was confusing. I decided not to press the issue or waste any more time on it and thanked him for his time.

I called the number at the bottom of that data sheet but had to leave a message. In the message I explained what we were looking at and the discrepancy between the matrix and mm2 info. The rep called me back a few hours later and agreed with what you heard about reading the matrix, I even asked him directly if it was rated for six #10's and he said yes.

When I asked him about the mm2 info being so much more restrictive he said it was a marketing plan for out of the US markets and that he has been complaining to 3M about this info being put on that sheet. He also said he had a recent call about this same question . I told him a couple of field wire twisters were trying to figure things out.
