University and school lab - shutoff power requirement

Does anyone know any codes requires power to
all electrical outlets inside school labs
be able to turned off from a location
within the room?

I went to a school and saw in one chemistry lab, they installed
a toggle switch near teacher's desk, flipping that
switch, the power to outlets in room is gone.

I don't know of any code requirement, but it is common to shut off the gas, water, and power at lab stations. Maybe just a teacher preference, or maybe just common sense to have it?
