Hey gurus, does anyone know if bare copper ( uninsulated ) grounds are allowed on the side of a building between say an internal source ( such as the new subpanel I'm going to do to replace old fed pacific ungrounded sub in closet ) and the main system bonding point? I'm jammed for time and trying to avoid re reading 250 this afternoon. Many Many thx. Any reference to 250 content areas would be appreciated. Thx again.

What is a sub-panel ground, are you referring to a GEC? Is this in a separate structure? There should be an EGC run with the sub-panel feeder.

If you are asking can you run a separate EGC to a sub panel the answer is no, it has to be in the same conduit or cable.
thx

im unused to referring to Grounding Conductor for panels/switch gear as EGC but it makes sense.

Im new at this level, thx so much. Can u please post NEC loc so I can show my client?

We r trying to minimize how much wall hacking we need to do but to no avail it seems. Thx

Look here:

300.3 Conductors..
