I see art 230.6 conductors considered outside the building .

Question service feeds coming into a basement level electrical room now its 4 x 4000 amp mains with 12 runs each Swbd run across ceiling 10 foot in rigid we are underground from pad transformers to basement wall meaning completely underground .

Now the feeders will pass thur the basement wall with 12 runs of 4 inch rigid pipe which is 2 feet thick and then pipe over head to gear 90 down into the tops .

This will be 48 x 4 inch conduits across ceiling in electrical room only.

From inside basement wall to gear overhead 10 feet tops .

Is this a code violation ?

Is there a article that states it directly .

I know these are unprotected from power companys transformers but are they what is you opinion .

We always pour these in concrete when passing thur a building but these are in the electrical room totally .

Thanks

It is entirely up to how your AHJ interprets 230.70(A)(1), there is no number set in stone.

If their interpretation allows 10' you're good to go.

I agree. The way I see it 48-4" GRS conduits are going to need some room to get to their respective nearest point of entry.

Hurry up Ohmhead we want pictures already.

Thanks for the info we normally enter from underground but this one we must come in from the side wall to a basement main electrical room .

Were just in the planing stages and this is a gray area so from what you pointed out its what or how the inspector sees it .

Years ago we had a inspector question entering from below a 1200 amp panel from power companys transformer .

And i thought there was a section in the code stating you could rise up with conduit a certain length with service feeders . Well thanks for the help ill be looking more into this and asking the county what they want or will accept

Take care and yes i wont forget there will be some photos but its a few months down the road yet were looking at dirt now no work yet .

You can build a form around the interior conduits and cover them with 2" of concrete all the way to the gear. Then they are "outside".
