Ok, we are having this debate concerning maintaining an integral lightning protection system that has tested out unserviceable and being replaced with a newer catenary system over an explosives operating building. Some folks say don't worry about the old system leave it in place and just maintain the newer system. The newer system meets all the requirements of NFPA 780. Questions are this: 1. Do we or are we required to maintain the old integral system inconjunction with the newly installed catenary system?
2. Does the remaining system pose any greater risk by leaving it versus demo'ing it at some phase of the project during installation and test out of the newer system?
3. Could it potentially pose a risk associated withour rolling ball of protection? This question has some really good debates ongoing! LOL
4. Is there any requirement that we are overlooking that requires removal of the older system if testing proves system is defective and beyond cost effective to fix?
