Controversial, On a 3 way wall receptacle, should the ground be located on top end or on the bottom end. conventionally it is on the bottom.

Re: Up or down

This subject is covered many times on this and all other forums. The consensus is "who cares" :D

Re: Up or down

The CMP's don't care to address this either. Most will say ground up, but if you look at a plug in timer, flashlight or simialr, the receptacle has to be installed ground down.

Re: Up or down

I know we all make light of this, but there is a serious situation concerning receptacles we seem to ignore, and that is, what color receptacle should we use on an egg shell wall?

Re: Up or down

Ronald do you have some part numbers so I can get me some of those outlets? ;)

Do you have any suitable for horizontal mounting?

Re: Up or down

Bennie, I was always partial to brown eggs because I never had any chickens that layed white. (white were/are store bought) We do buy eggs now, I miss having chickens. (teary eyed) :D

Re: Up or down

I recently had a lady tell me that the recep color selection was "severely lacking in options for her Etruscan Red walls" and that the "electrical industry was out of touch with modern homes"

Re: Up or down

Tell her thats why they make spray paint.

Roger you mean the neutral and the hot was on the wrong side?

I'd take em back this is expensive devices.

Re: Up or down

Roger I'm sorry these are considered bidirectional they make them both ways some people don't like the black hot wire on top.

When they mount them horizontal.

My mistake:Ronald

Re: Up or down

Hello Russell, I wasn't completely joking in my post. I have been told close to the same thing before. We have had to literaly furnish hundreds of plates to be wall papered to match the finished wall.

Ronald, yes, that is what I thought I meant until I moved around to the other side of the table. :D
