I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem. My company wired a dentist office a few months ago, they opened last month. We added an outlet for a computer in a cabinent, and fished from the outlet on the counter, which was gfci protected. Last week they started having intermitent nusance trips. The computer has a small ups with it. The only other things plugged in were 2 walkie-talkie chargers. I checked all the wireing, replaced the gfi-no dice. Today I broke down and replaced all the recepticles with gfis, so the outlet for the computer was non-gfi. (there are no sinks or any water on the counter, the gfis were on the plans so we installed them) Problem seems to be solved. Has anyone ever had problems with a ups, or a computer on a gfi? I can't recall ever doing it myself, so I dont really know if this is a usual thing or what.

Yes, I had customer with a monitor that would trip the GFCI. The manual listed an acceptable leakage current. The current was within its rating but the manufacturer replaced the monitor anyway. If I remember correctly I measured the current at just about 5 milliamp. This has been several years ago.

most probably the gfi was being tripped by the computer power supply. the equipment (computer) ground could be isolated from the system ground and that where the current is coming from.
