I posted a week or so ago about HBA trying to get an amendment to take the AFCI's, tamper receps, and some GFCI protection out of the '08 NEC.
I got an update today from someone who was at the meeting last week.
An NEC task force was assembled to make a recomendation to the state code advisory board. That task force is recommending the following:
Accept the AFCI, tamper resistant receps as written.
Relax the requirement on GFCI requirements to not include dedicated appliance circuits in basements, garages, etc. . (freezers, garage door openers)
Revert to previous NEC text allowing utilities to provide outdoor lighting, etc. . services to customers w/o being granted an easement, allowing them to do the work under contract (a code change pushed by the IBEW).
I think there were a couple more but I can't remember them now. I'm supposed to be getting an e-mail later this week or next week w/ the minutes of the meeting.
Its not certain yet whether the state will follow the advise of their task force, but we'll know something soon.
Anyway, just thought I'd share.
