update to rbs16 caddy bracket

for those of you who remember the problem an inspector was giving us about the caddy rbs16 box mounting brackets heres the update...

the brackets are not allowed to fully support the box in palm beach county florida. what we did to solve the problem is tig weld the box to the bracket and the inspectors are going to allow this.

they reason cited was the box could fall into the wall if the mud ring was ever taken off.

agree or disagree this was their stance so we have to do it.

I haven't used them. Is it true? Will the box fall off if you remove te mud ring?

Not that I'm gonna say that would necessarily matter. The devices would be hanging in the room with exposed conductors if you took the mud ring off too.

Did these inspectors have something to do with the voting machines too?

That has got to be one of the dumbest reasons they could have come up with.

When are mud rings removed from a box behind sheetrock in normal everyday routines? And if you did remove the ring in a renovation and the box fell into the wall, it would mean a connector wasn't installed correctly, so it might even be a good thing.

If it did fall into the wall, and if it were down low, an average arm could reach down and pick it up, if it were up high, the EC would simply have to furnish another box and tighten the damn connector this time. :D

In reality, this is a mistake they made and in trying to justify their stance they have provided a reason (stupidity) for us to question their intelligence. :D

We use them box holders all the time.Yes if the mud ring is removed they are no longer held in place.It is an approved assembly of box, box holder and mud ring.They do a fine job of holding the box in place.If you remove screws from a ceiling fan it would fall too,do they want them welded ? Somebody is getting carried away.If you pull the nails out of a nail on it falls too.Have caddy get in touch with them.
