if i have a 125a i think 45 kva transformer and its powering a 208v 100a panel, should the transformer be upgraded. the current panel doesn't have enough room for what i need to install. i didn't check to see what amperage the panel is pulling of the transformer but with only two open spaces and outlets on the panel i might not have enough amperage left and should go to a 200a with a new transformer. should i stay with the same kva with more amps on the transformer?

Always take some readings first. Just because the slots are utilized does not mean they are pulling 80% of their rating. I hook up a Dranetz meter and measure over a 24 hour period to make sure I have accurate information.

would there be any prohibition on adding a PB with a 50A main just tapped on to the xfmr secondary?

between the 100A main on the one panel and the 50A on the second you would still be around 125% of the xfmr rating.
