What is all your input on a conversion from 120V wiring to 240V 2Wire wiring? The local inspector stated that he would sign off if I marked both ends of the Neut(white)wire so it was properly identified at both the Breaker box and the hard wired product with RED tape. What input do you have on the NEC and if this is acceptable without pulling a ned RED or Black wire.

The AHJ has final say but according to the NEC you can only re-identify and use a white or gray wire as an ungrounded conductor if you are using some type of cable...if you have conduit, then technically you should pull in the right color wire... but again if the inspector oks it... get it in writing and save yourself some expense and labor... IMHO, it's not a real "safety issue"

If you re-identify the White wire with Red tape, what are you going to do for a White wire???
Or is this strictly for a straight 240v equipment?
If so, see 200.7(C)(1)

This unit is straight 220, no neutral. Most applications would be either red and black, or black and black(marked). Problem with this install... wire is sized correctly but can not change wire color.
