UPS backfeed

Is it possible for a UPS to backfeed its supply circuit? If so, how and is it preventable?

Do you have a specific UPS in question. We use Lieberts and they switching capabalities that will isolate the feeds.

I can imagine that some sort of catastrophic failure in the UPS can cause a backfeed of the DC battery voltage, but not the rated AC output.

Again, more info would be helpful. UPS brand, size, voltage rating, battery or battery bank voltage rating, etc.

For a dual conversion UPS, to backfeed the supply would require just the right sort of failure in the static switch element. I'd have to rate the chances of this happening as pretty small, I've never seen or heard of it happening.
