UPS for Data Center Sizing Recommendations

Hello all, This is my first Post!!

I'm from medellin, Colombia (same US voltage) and I'm an Electronics engineering but lastly focused in the power engineering (by the way It's a great field)..

My question is: the company (insurance bussines) which i work for, has planned installed a new UPS system, 1+1 parallel redundant for its data center, which actually holds a load of 50kVA,...I need to know:

1. What power capacity will be appropriated for 10 years, without thinking in upgrading the system?
I'm considering 120kva...

2. If the two UPS will be, in normal conditions, loaded at 50% max., May i estimate only the half BTU (heeat disipated) for each UPS, given that this variable in the especificationsis is at full load?

Thanks in advance

Re: UPS for Data Center Sizing Recommendations

your best bet is to talk with a reputable UPS supplier about these questions.

as for the heat load, my best guess would be that at 50% of load it would generate something like 25% of the heat it would generate at 100% load. but that is just a guess, and is something to confirm with the UPS supplier.

as for future loads, there is no formula to use. My inclination would be to make your best estimate of what will happen in the next few years and account for that. anything beyond that is a wild guess and probably will be wrong.
