Can a 150 KVA UPS go anywhere, or does it need to be installed within a fire rated room dedicated to the UPS?

I'm thinking it can go anywhere, but I need to verify.

It depends.

What is it feeding? Life safety, etc.?

It's desirable that the space should be conditioned to optimize battery life.

Sounds like it is OK.

This is basically a band-aid fix -install a second UPS in a printer room, since the primary UPS is running out of capacity. However, that's the only practical place we have to put it.

The trend today for manufacturers is to install UPS's in data centers. A 150 KVA may be on the large side, but with new technology, its actually becoming more common. The thought is to keep the critical power as close to the load as possible, less chance of interruption. New technology does not require lots of intervention and few catch on fire if the batteries are maintained.

UPS Location

I think that generally speaking, the preferred location is close to the load. But in the very large data centers, with multiple 675kW static UPS modules, and certainly with rotary UPS modules, the equipment is located off the Data Center floor, with PDUs (Power Distribution Units) located adjacent to the loads served in the Data Centers.
The UPS feeds the PDU. The PDUs are equipped with transformers to go from UPS Voltage (480-600) to 208/120V for distribution to Remote Power Panels for ultimate distribution to the computer equipment.

... location of batteries

... location of batteries

Chiming in again regarding the Data Centers I've seen and that our company designs....
Batteries are located in their own separate rooms, and cabled to the UPS modules, which are located in switchgear rooms.
Unless of course it's rotary UPS modules.... and then there are no batteries!

Rotary seems to generally be the Large Data Center method-of-choice.
