Can someone tell me what kinds of hazards are present that should be avoided when installing new UPS equipment? We are currently installing a new 208 volt, 20 KW unit. I assume some DC voltage is present. Suggestions for avoiding hazards would be appreciated.

Off hand.

- normal electrical hazards (remember a shorted battery can put out a LOT of amps)
- battery hazards (acid and very heavy)

Not sure what application you are using but when I do facility inspections I find the following:

that adequate space around the equipment is used for storage etc..

eyewash stations in place for battery maintenance

something to move the batteries before you have a back injury

overloading the ups system
My IT guys plug-in some much equipment that the power cords to the smaller units are hot - fire hazards

proper ventialtion

Lighting of the area.

Computer room battery bank is not maintained on a regular basis.
