Right here.
I'm not famaliar with that one, but I am familiar with the Dinolites digital USB scope. We saw one at a museum a few months ago, so I bought one for my son. It's really cool, and I think it was only around 150 bucks. Really sharp resolution.

does anyone here have any experience with these laptop/usb scopes ? I was thinking of buying one but would be interested in any positive/negative experiences.

Why do you need one ? when , where, what, I'm just curious?

Acting like a live Camera, I'm still scratching for the reason here... :)

Besides keeping up with certain peps here, I've already got a great christmas list together !

just for hobby - no real reason to use it at work ever came up, although I thought if I had a datalogging cabability that there might be times I would use it since I usually have laptop with me. didn't know if these usb things were any use though, since I've never used one. (my old heathkit is bound for the dumpster I think)

Pro's and con's,....okay. Do you do service work nak? They have alot more use than just hobby work, but not if you don't do service work.

Con's....? None. The 123 and Trendplot is splendid. A scope and Trendplot is grand for drive work as well as many other things.

I've only ever used benchtop scopes, just wanted some feedback from anyone using a laptop/usb setup since I hadn't used one. (didn't know if they were junk or not)

Sorry nak, I've been hooked on this new band I found on YouTube, my attention is somewhat short, so isn't my intelligence:grin:

The first handhelds weren't worth much, wouldn't even catch singleshot's. My 123 suits almost every purpose I need it to. The bandwidth is only 20MHz, yet that's all I need for field work. It's rated 600V CATIII, it's all I could ask for:wink:

We have a few Tektronix scopes that have an RS 232 serial output. They are OK, but I don't much like connecting a laptop to a scope that is measuring a few hundred volts. It killed one of mine and a few my engineers have experienced similar problems.
Now I generally use one of my old scopes with a floppy disk drive.
Sure, it is old hat.
Waveforms are saved as csv files which can be easily downloaded to spreadsheet applications.
Given that it is a removal media, there isn't a limitation on storage. And each disk can hold about a hundred waveforms.

USB scopes

The experience that I have had with the USB scopes is generally pretty good. I have bought 2 from my local electronics store made by National Instruments both of them grew legs with in a month of purchase & re-purchase when some one I lent them to left them unguarded in a public area. I bought a Fluke 192 with the USB/software and do not lend it out! You get what you pay for though. The person that was "giving" the others away didn't get the National Instruments model (more expensive than off-shore units) when checking a phase to phase issue smoke escaped. I didn't see any UL listing on the data sheet but it looks like a TUV logo on the manual's cover. I am very leery of anything bought from off-shore directly with out an on shore contact/service number.
The short amount of time that I had the NI USB scopes I did put them through their paces. I used them phase to phase @ 480 VAC, with current clamps and trouble shooting 18 kW switching power supplies. I just wish that ANY of the test gear I own had the little cable locks that my antique lap top does!
Hope this helps.
