I RECENTLY USED USE-2 CABLING IN AN OVERHEAD MAST FOR A 200 AMP SERVICE ON A RESIDENCE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A LOCAL INSPECTOR THAT IS NOT PERMITTED.
WHY??

Re: USE-2 CABLING

Please turn off your caps. It is considered shouting.

Read article 338 very carefully.

The reason it is not permitted for above ground use is because it does not have a flame retardant covering.

Re: USE-2 CABLING

Dave,

I don't see anything that allows USE to be used above grade for anything other than a connection to a meter socket or disconnect, and that assumes the USE has physical protection and is part of a service lateral.

Re: USE-2 CABLING

The neutral in triplex has provisions for the span support problem that USE does not.

Or do I owe little Tiffany an apology?
