Use of flexible cable

I?m looking at a generator assembly and trying to figure out if flexible cable can be used to connect the actual generator/alternator head to the circuit breaker and external connection interface. The genset could be stationary, portable or even container based. Articles 400.7(A)(7) & 400.7(A)(9) indicate that flexible cabling might be allowed, but since the cabling would connect to the generator/alternator connection point instead of the actual armature windings, I?m not sure this would apply. Additionally, I don?t know what other code articles would be covered under the provisions of 400.7(A)(10). Also, does anyone know when flexible cable can be installed in raceways under 400.8(6)? :)

No breaker installed in the unit?

You might want to see 590.2(B) and 590.4(B).

Welcome to the Forum. Would you have a link to the gen-set in question?

Could you provide a bit more info as to the gear down stream of this thing?

Hi Chris and thanks for the reply.

Let me clarify, I'm looking at the genset's internal wiring from the generator head to the breaker. Sometimes the breaker is attached to a quick connect panel (CamLok's). The cabling between these components is the issue. The gear downstream can use flexible cabling depending on the applicaton (temporary vs permanent), but I'm trying to determine if the internal cabling can be flexible cable.

Thanks again,

Thanks for the response, Chris.

Let me clarify, I'm intererested in the cabling requirements internal to the genset from the generator head connect block to the circuit breaker and, sometimes, from the breaker to a quick connect (CamLok) interface panel for customer connections. What is connected downstream is not an issue for me right now.

Thanks again,

Mike
