I recently priced out a project to install harwired smoke detectors in the front stair well of a four story, three family dwelling in Boston. The top two floors are a combined unit. The rear stairwells were already hardwired, and had to be tied into the front throught the basement. Question: Can NM be used legally (fished through the walls and ceiling), passing from one floor to another? Seems that the Mass code amendment leads me to beleive that it can't be used, and must be piped. Anyone?
