Use of SO cord for Busways

I followed (with interest) the topic a few weeks ago which started out as a question on installing a receptacle above a drop ceiling and then expanded to a discussion on 400.7 and 400.8. This topic generated a lot of discussion on the allowable uses and installation of SO cord above drop ceilings.

We are currently in a similar situation with an existing installation in a large facility which has dozens of labs with all kinds of computers, test equipment, data loggers, etc. Almost all of these labs have overhead busway with pendants of SO cord to feed this equipment. The SO cord is terminated in a receptacle and all of the equipment is plug-connected. I understand the requirements of 368.8 concerning supporting of the drops and strain relief, and we are recommending changes to comply with them.

However, the big question concerns the running of these pendants under raised floors. At present, the installation has the SO cord come down from the busway, penetrate the raised floor, then runse drops go under the raised floor and then pop up to feed all of this lab equipment.

Article 400.7 (B) specifically allows the use of SO cord as a drop from a busway. It does not specifically allow this drop to run under a raised floor. Article 400.8 starts out with the words "unless specifically permitted in 400.7". So our big question is, is it acceptable to have these drops run under a raised floor?
