Where do you guys buy used tools. We are a small contractor, up and coming and always expanding....Needing more tools. Bought a used rigid 700 a Contractors Choice. Was new in 11-07, still has rigid warantee. I thought i got a good deal. Just curious of other buisnesses that handle new/used electrical contractor equip. I am in sw ohio.

I pretty much only buy used equipment. I'm not talking about running to the pawn shop to score a deal on a cordless drill. Business closing auctions, surplus dealers, etc.

Stolen?????

Stolen?????

I make every effort to avoid buying something stolen...Reason why i stay away from ebay and craigs list, tellnsell, ect. Was asking for other respectable buisnesses that deal in contractor tools. Note, to sell to contractors choice, you must be a accredited contractor of the type of tools selling/trading, just so you know.

I will buy off of ebay. I would more than gladly list what I have. I got jipped twice, and that was for a $5 EE CD. I did get jipped for an optical cable for my scope off of ebay two months ago, other that, I have gotten plenty of good deals off of ebay:smile: I'll put it to test, if it works for me, than I am satisfied.

i wouldnt buy a used tool personally. nothings better than buying a shiny new expensive tool. within a few months of use it looks beat up just like the used stuff
I don't either. I find a T&M that won't mind/notice. I have thought about it many times and will again. But then I think I'm used and I wouldn't buy me.

I lived in Cincinnati for the last 5 years, and the only place I dealt with was Contractor's Choice. I bought a turtle type wire cart from them when I worked for UC on a project. I remember them having threaders, electric benders, and a lot of job boxes as well as smaller power tools and accessories and a couple repair guys.

Contact your local auctioneers. They may have an EC they're doing an auction for sometime. If not, ask if they have a mailing list you can get put on.

Sad to say, but some are going belly-up these days.

I never buy used tools. IMO it supports thieves who steal other contractors tools.

I absolutely agree with you on this matter. I do buy used tools. Mostly it's the ones that tend to be very high priced new that I know I will not use very often. I do the majority of purchasing on ebay, and I do my best Columbo impersonation and sift through their feedback and other auctions to see if I smell a rat, if so I move on.

Ebay, Amazon.com, garage sales, friends, contractors.

If you look at the stores, a lot of companies put refurbished tools on there. I've gotten some craftsman that aren't bad for HO projects at a good price. I've also seen some other (big name) companies list tools.

As far as garage sales go, I usually only get hand tools that are brand name/lifetime warranty or hard to find.

Don't forget that you will make your living and put food on your table with these tools. I don't, so I don't worry about it as much. But you can only run to a store and exchange something so many times before it would have been cheaper to get something better.
