I’m trying to install a raypak 6450 pool heat pump and the instructions mention you can use 10 wire with 50 amp breaker if the length is under 97 feet.

i thought 50 amp required 6 wire. It mentions article 440 of NEC, is the heat pump a special case?

That said, Heat Pumps are one of the "special cases" where that is allowed.

We don't allow DIY posts. Did you see in the instructions where it says installation by licensed electrician only? If (or when) there is a shock or electrocution and you try to sue the manufacturer, your lawsuit won't go very far.
