Is there anything in the Code that states that you cannot use a larger (more spaces) panel rated at 200A and feed it with a 150A breaker, thereby allowing more breakers at a lower amperage?

I installed a 200A sub-panel in a pool house and the pool company wants to pull power from the main panel up line. The main panel approved by the local utility is only 200A. This was originally set up for feeding the 200A sub panel that I installed. I am assuming I cannot use a service with distribution and install a 200A breaker as the main AND a 50A breaker to supply power the the pool controller panel.

Maybe someone could also recommend a panel that would be appropriate for this type of scenario. Thanks!

No there isn't.

I have a 125 amp feeder for a 40 cir 200 amp ML panel. It is no problem as long as the load is under the amp. of the feeder.

You have a 200 amp main. At the main you have a 50 amp feeder for the pool and a feeder for a 200 amp panel. You want the 200 amp panel feed by a 150 amp breaker, is this correct?

Yes that will work, but depending on the load calculation, you may be able to still feed the 200 amp panel with 200 amps, and have the 50 amps for the pool, if a majority of your load is non continuous. The combined total of all your breaker ratings can equal more than 200 amps.

I have 200A panel "protected" by a 50A CB in my own hovel....granted the CB is an FPE ~ but that's another story :D
