Using 4 square blank plate for support

Is there anywhere in the code that says that you can or cannot use a 4 square blank for support for an SO cord drop? I have a 4 square box mounted to the steel structure with a SOOW cord with kellum grip connector hanging down with a cord cap on the end of it to feed a machine.

Take a look at 400.10
 
8-32 screws are rated 50 pounds per pair - thats the max luminare wt on an outlet box.
It would be much better to use a kellems grip hanging from the red iron and a CGB on the cover.
Take a look at 314.23 H 1 for an load end application, thats what I found so far.

I like the suggestion to hang from red iron!!! 314 seems to be dealing with box on pedant ends. I am mainly wondering about the blank plate as support. Where do you get the 8-32 weight rating?

What would be your code reference? So, you are saying that it is not OK to come out of a 4 square box that is mounted to the red iron with a SO connector and use a kellum to hang off of the steel sturcture down to a pendant receptacle?

That code refers to "surface" not structure. I see that as meaning where someone tries to run a flexible cord instead of a wiring method in 300 (ex. EMT).

I have read code change proposals for this section, based on the code panel statements there is no doubt at all hanging a cord from the 'red iron' is a violation unless it is supplied from bus duct.

What is their concern? Everything is supported by the structure, why not the flexible cord too?
