Working in a Mexican facility where the General Electrical contractor has used 600A Fusible plug-in tap box to Feed the SQD I-Line II Busway, basically in a "reverse feed". The Fusible box and busway are fed from the MDP using a 600A SQD MA style breaker and attached to the "Load" side of the switch. Obviously, leaving the box with power to lugs and fuses when the switch is off. While this has Safety and code violation written all over it, I admit to not knowing all there is to know about distribution.
Since this is a prominent contractor in the area, I am wondering if anyone has seen this practice before and can explain the reasons why they would do this? Is it part of a coordinated system protection scheme that is used when cheaper Main breakers are employed to raise sccr ratings? Might this be a "standard Practice" in other parts of the world? Looking for any specific code answers or experience that help to make a case yea or nay.
