What would pass a rigorous inspection for five square box into an extension ring?
Just putting a real extension ring on the five square box then nippling into a surface mounted gutter?

there’s no conforming way to just press a 3 inch hole and tap a couple of screw holes to match the five square box?

How about mounting devices in the removal cover of a gutter?3B99ABCB-65F9-4D98-89F3-A713ADF140EE.jpeg

I'm a little confused, how does the question relate to the photo, do you want to add a wireway to the 5" box?

Sorry guys long day. I’ll clarify in a bit

I want to mount 6 switches from that box. Original plan was to nipple over from the existing 5sq ring to new 5sq boxes and simply put two gang covers on up to 2 boxes from the ring

It looks like only one extension ring. What's the question?
question: is there a better looking way to hang 6 devices from the wires in that extension ring
other than by nippling over into a series of new surface mounted boxes with raised covers

job is abandoning old k&t power and light

Overview:
I created a "relay cabinet" in the central closet for casetas

Room control:
picos will pick the rooms and halls

Approvals:
start work survey inspector was fine with that

its like creating a six gang surface mounted box with a raised cover

guys used to mount shallow mudrings backwards on the 5 gang boxes in utility rooms but i doubt that is compliant

intermatic pool panels have ko's for that purpose, but they are listed.

seems like the original plan is all there is. that's fine, its in a closet

prolly should have put it in the general electrical forum.

happy to hear that your hip is going to be ok larry
