Have a 12/2 romex that I want to splice and continue in conduit to motor.

I need two hots and someone told me since the motor does not need a neutral I can use the neutral as a hot if labeled. Is that true?

It's only a neutral if you make it a neutral. Call it a "white wire". Then you can permanently re-identify it by following the rules in 200.7(C)
