Using phase tape on 6awg & Smaller

grounded: 200.6
equipment grounding 250.119

those I recall.. write so many times.. :)

The CMP drew the line in the sand. But actually, smaller than 4 (there is a 5 awg) are the sizes you are likely to be changing over the life of a building.
This and 250.119 are the most violated rule in the NEC.
Find you rule at 200.6
What size do you think should be allowed to re-identified?
By the way, 6 and 4 white are available.

I have seen #2 white but it does seem odd that reidentifying a certain size is legal while one size smaller is a violation. If it is effectively identified then I don't see the problem. Unfortunately the CMP does.

Although I know it is a code violation (and I'm required to write it as a defect) I do not see a safety issue with re-identifying 6awg and smaller grounded and grounding conductors.

I suppose I just assumed that we actually have "Qualified Persons" working on the installation:roll:

Try using tape to re-mark 22 AWG conductors and you will see what I mean.

Never tried remarking a 22 but paint, sharpie, colored shrink tube all come to mind. In reality I would probably just 'flag' it with colored tape but that is real ugly.

One of the reasons, I would see for not doing it, is not everyone uses phasing tape for the right reasons.

Went to a friends house on Saturday to replace the breaker for their spa (I didn't remove it). Hooked the white taped wire to the neutral and the two blacks to the hot side and nothing. Checked and I was getting 220 between the white and one of the legs.

"oh that's not really the neutral we just taped it to remember where it went". Spa still didn't work when I left (found a blown fuse) hope I didn't burn anything else up.
