Using roto splitters on mc and ac cable. I was looking for the code section to show other people that you can't use tin snips or dykes on mc cable.110-3bsays that you shall use each product as it is listed. Where can I find where it is listed? ul.com?

I do not think you will find the instructions that say do not use snips. I know many guys who use them, at first I thought it was bogus. Yet they are very proficient at it. There are people who cannot get it right with the hacksaw or rotosplit, what is the big deal.

Different strokes for different folks!!!

I've never seen anything in the code that talked about what tools were permitted/prohibited for anything. Using a product is not the same thing as using tools on it. You can use tin snips, dykes, cake mixers, or a rock in a sock. As long as the tool gets the job done and doesn't damage the product, you're fine. I often have to improvise with tools when I run into situations where I can't use the proper tool for some reason.

That said, it's generally best to use the proper tool for the job.

Dunno, but I thought AFC tells you to use a Roto-Split. That would mean that you weren't following manufacturers instructions if you used something else.

I usually bend the sheath where I want it cut until it splits, and then pull apart and unwind the remainder. Then I bend and break the spiral with my fingertips. This way I get a broken end that bends outward and never scratches the insulation.

Then I insert the bushing between the sheath and plastic inner liner (even with MC), fold the plastic over the bushing, and insert it into the connector. I have really grown to like the push-in Arlington AST-series connectors, even the double ones.

I like to use a rotosplit because it's convenient when you're 15' up in the air on a lift. But I am almost as fast if I have a hacksaw handy.

30 years ago there was no roto split, Caddy only had 4 clips.
Ceiling fans only mounted from a J hook into a wooden support.
The pickup truck was the cable puller.
Back stabbin was what your co workers did.
Having a 4 speaker stereo was called Quadraphonic, not surround.
Pong was a cool video game when it came out for more than 2 players.
Table dances were 5 dollars and you could find a $1 Black Jack table on a Saturday night.
I love new tools, technology, and cant wait for better tools to save my knuckles and back.
The first Roto Split had a straight handle & busted your knuckles, then they put a bend into it.
The Electric Roto Skinner for big cable is amazing!

I started out using Klein BX snips

I "resisted" the roto-split...until my snips broke...I grabbed another guys roto...since then, I've replaced 2 pairs of the Klein's and am still using the same roto split (yes, it is that same guy's, but not the same blade :) )

Anyone use/still use the Klein BX snip?

I use them sometimes.
I used to use them all the time.
Now I use the roto for MC.

The snips are good for cutting washers or a 4" sq blank.
