The latest edition of our Washington State Electrical Newsletter discusses using Tray Cable in place of NMB. It basically states its a more durable wiring method and will be allowed if installed per Art 334.

That being said, why is TC being used over NMB? Any specific applications?

I dont know much about tray cable, but the new line of romex, the sheath tears way easier than the older romex.

I see tray cable comes with many conductors, this stuff would br great for homeruns, get something like a 9 strand #12, wouldnt need to derate depending on the conductors' insulation.

About 10 yrs ago the local supply houses were pushing tc as a super cable reasonably priced and you could use it the same as uf all of the local inspectors were bought into you could do just about anything with this stuff.,, Upon further review it was not all that but I dont remember the specifics as I always look up the stuff as I need it. I used it as a temp underground feed for a bunch of job trailers. When the trailers were removed I pulled all the old cable out with my truck and ran a special on hottubs . I later saw something in the code book which made it not suitable for use in a residential application.
