Hello there!
I am looking for some feedback regarding who is responsible for supplying the CTs within a CT Cabinet.
(The Electrical Contractor or the Utility Company.)
In my experience, it has varied between different regions and utility providers.
The only thing that has remained true is that the EC installs and provides the CT-Cabinet and installs the CTs.
~Question~
Would you be so kind as to answer the state and area you are from and who is responsible for supplying the CTs within the CT Cabinet?

I have never seen a revenue generating entity, like a POCO, allowing a customer to supply the cash register/meter. I have seen some bid specifications require contractors to include the utility new service charges in their bid package.

I agree with Jim. The only projects I furnished any metering components on was state owned Universities who were their own power company.

Varies by POCO here, Our biggest POCO supplies the CTS and VTs but requires the EC to provide the cabinet and do all wiring
(Services >400 amp and <1200 require a POCO "Transscocket"--purchased from POCO & wired by EC)
Some smaller POCO do all CT metering themselves.

Thank you for the feedback, Jim. This is right in line with what I have seen as well.

Same for Puget sound energy. They have very detailed drawings on the size and type of CT cabinet which the customer installs. The cabinets have a mounting base with lugs for line and load that the CTs connect to. The contractor installs the cabinet with the correct mounting base gets it inspected, and then the poco will wire the CT’s to the meter socket.

Good point, there could be a black market for CTs that are a bit off....

But the actual CTs are supplied and mounted by the POCO, right?
The OP was about who supplies the CTs not the cabinet.

Yes poco furnishes and installs CTs. All non resi metering is approved prior to installation
Does your POCO charge the EC or the customer for any new service charges?
Ours charges the customer, but many specs still want the EC to include an allowance.

It’s been some years since I applied for eg a new well service. POCO looks at revenue generated vs cost of construction. All charges are per utility tariffs.
