Utility-scale inrush

Just curious, how do utilities manage inrush current when energizing large distribution circuits? Any references for further reading?

Good question and I have often wondered about this as well. Restoring large areas would seem problematic after a large outage. Hopefully some of our more informed POCO type members can enlighten us.

Google "cold load pickup". Generally, for a extensive outage, feeders are brought back on individually and feeder protective devices have settings to allow an initial high current after a feeder has been de-energized.
