Can these fixtures be installed in any manner other than hanging straight down from their intended hangers? I would guess no but I have seen many unsafe practices. If the guts are taken out, the shell anchored with a sealant at the drilled hole and put back together would be my only guess as to an approved method but my gut tells me no.

I've often seen them horizontal, as from a wall box, and upright as well on occasion. The globe's gasket should function in any direction.

I will have to google it since the only paperwork that came with it showed using the stainless steel hanging brackets.
