Do we need GEC or EGC for VSD system?

Customer is asking for ground rod? The input that feeds the VSD is 3 Hot and EGC. I am not sure why we need ground rod.

Any help please.

Regardless of whether you have a GEC or not, you will need an EGC.

I doubt it matters much one way or the other if you add a ground rod for a VFD. But not a code requirement. Some people like to pay extra for stuff that serve no real purpose.

We've installed a thousand drives and never once connected it an electrode. Requiring a connection to one sounds like junk science and a waste of money.
