I was emailed some arch. drawings for a t.i. space a g.c. wants a price on. There are no electrical drawings, no load requirements, no electrical specs. Just and arch. layout of plugs, data and 2x2 parabolic lens drop in fixtures. Do you guys often bid with such little information? I talked to g.c. and he said thats all the information he has. What are your thoughts?

Seems like it'd be hard to bid without knowing minor details, like, say... what kind of wire/cable they want installed? Where the power supply is? And the like...

Had a customer that wanted a quote on an Ice plant that provided a nice looking cad drawing, but only had motors and conduit sizes, and locations on it, no control wiring, switch gear or panels. Finally ended up doing it for T&M. They sent their engineer out to provide information on everything on site and stayed on site for the entire job. They were very happy with the quality of work and everything working correctly the first time. they complained a little about the bill, because it was a little higher than the previous plants, but they did not get the quality and reliability at the other plants either. Finished two weeks ahead of schedule.

I price jobs similar to this a lot. You have to visit the site (I'm guessing this is existing space) get your own measurements and equipment specs. Then when you turn in your price document exactly what you will and will not provide. I go so far as to spell out exact # and style of devices , fixtures and panel boards. Also make a copy of the documents you got from the GC and reference those in your quote.

a bad set of plans is sometimes a blessing in disguise (as long as you send a detail sheet qualifying everything you are quoting)
